Errol Spence will defend his WBC and IBF welterweight world titles against Danny Garcia on November 21, both fighters confirmed on Friday.
The champion unified two belts by beating Shawn Porter in a thriller last September, but just weeks later was involved in a high-speed car crash in his hometown of Dallas.
Spence was fortunate to survive the incident as his Ferrari flipped multiple times, ejecting him because he was not wearing a seatbelt.
This fluke circumstance may well have saved his life and he miraculously escaped with no broken bones.
The facial injuries Spence suffered in the crash have raised questions about his boxing future though.
Many assumed he would take a tune-up bout when he returned to the ring in order to become reaccustomed to taking punches.
However, ‘The Truth’ has refused to do this and is instead jumping straight in with a bona fide challenger in Garica, who has previously held belts in two divisions.
Spence tweeted on Friday: “Done deal. The king of the division is back Nov 21 on Fox PPV vs Danny Garcia #ManDown #StrapSeason.”
Garcia added: “HERE WE GO! Errol Spence on Nov 21. Signed! Sealed! Delivered! My tenth world title fight. It’s time to crown the king again.”
